Since 1968, United Methodist Nursery School has been an integral part of the Highland community. We have been voted "Best Child Care Center" and that is due, in part, to our award winning staff. Most preschools have a high turnover in teachers with the most tenured staff staying four or five years, but at UMNS our newest staff member has been here three years while the rest have been here between eleven and forty years. We shall strive in every way possible to make our relations with you and your family satisfying and rewarding. We shall endeavor to guide your child's personal development and growth by presenting a well planned curriculum of enrichment to his or her everyday experiences. I invite you to look around our website to learn more about our wonderful staff and bright and cheerful classrooms. Of course, you are welcome to tour our facility as well. We look forward to working with you and your children.

Educational Philosophy

We believe that education takes place best when an environment is provided where young children can grow and learn in an atmosphere of warmth and love. This allows the child to achieve physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth at their own unique rate.

We help the child to develop a positive self image so they feel they are capable of handling new situations. We try to stimulate language development and encourage the children to express themselves in diferent mediums. We encourage creativity, and try to bolster their independence and curiousity so they will develop a positive attitude toward school and learning. We give them support as they develop their interpersonal skills with adults and with their peer group. We give them encouragements as they learn to modify their social/emotional behavior to fit a school setting.
